First Business Opens At Weirton Development

The first business is now open in the Village at Colliers Way off Route 22 in Weirton.

The transformation from an empty lot into a business development took 18 months.

Kwik King owner John Riley said he wanted to open a store in Weirton and knew it was ideal for his eighth gas station.

"I liked everything I saw about it," said Riley. "It has a nice traffic flow and it is close to Route 22 and Weirton Hospital."

Developers Mike Chek and Mike Heilman hope other entrepreneurs see those perks, too, and they're focused on bringing in more businesses.

"We're working to further the commercial side with a restaurant and a small plaza where we'll have some retail services," said Chek.

Lou Stein with Valley Ventures helped create the vision for the land. He believes the development is the start of great growth in the city.

"Over the next four to five years, you'll see somewhere between 350 to 400 jobs in this area," said Stein.

The property will also provide residential areas in the future.

"They will be patio-style homes," said Heilman. "They are one level with mostly two to three bedrooms and a two-car garage."

Developers can't yet name the next business that will call the Village at Colliers Way home.

"The best thing I can say is stay tuned to NEWS9 for further developments," said Chek.
