The latest project from Valley Ventures could be just what the Weirton area needs to help get our local economy back on a positive path.

Last week the local development organization announced its plans for its new offices as well as the creation of a new commerce center, to include existing businesses as well as a small business incubator in the hopes of assisting in the creation of other locally owned business.

Valley Ventures has had a lot of successes in the region, helping people to start up or expand their businesses. Just a visit to their new office location would show our residents many of the operations the group has had some involvement with.

Perhaps you have always dreamed of owning your own business. The incubator may be one avenue to help get that dream going. In addition it would help our own local economy.

We know it is difficult to try and start up your own business, especially with the current economy.

Through the operation of the small business incubator, local startups will have the opportunity to cut back on some of those initial costs by sharing services such as legal and accounting which they otherwise might have difficulty paying for as they try to get on their feet.

We can no longer rely on the possibility of a large corporation providing the majority of jobs for our area. Our residents need something now, and a small business incubator, as well as the light industrial incubator planned for sometime later in 2010, we feel is just what our area needs to help bring in at least some of those much-needed jobs.
